Shipboard Familiarization Programs for Deck, Engine Ratings and HRM students
The Shipboard Familiarization Program allows the students to experience the actual work onboard a vessel.
This program runs in different durations. Longer hours mean longer exposure to the different service areas as follows:
- Half day
- 3 days
- 5 days
- 7 days

One Year Apprenticeship Program for Deck Ratings, Engine Ratings, Steward and Galley personnel, and Seafarers Rating Course (SRC) students
The One-Year Apprenticeship Program is our commitment to help build successful careers for seafarers onboard passenger and cargo vessels. Maritime and Hospitality industry students can enroll in this program to get their Bachelor’s Degree on a subsidized rate.
INTERNSHIP/PRACTICUM PROGRAMS:
Internship at Negros Navigation Co., Inc., as one of the largest domestic shipping company, allows students to gain the practical experience under the close supervision of a professional onboard vessel and on shore. They shall be given the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in real-life situations. These hands on experience shall provide the students the information they can use in decision making with regard to their career path after graduation.

Maritime English for Officers and/or Ratings
This course enhances the communication skills required in the Maritime work. Navigational Phrases and Vocabulary of Seafarers are developed specifically for onboard vessel language.

International Safety Management (ISM) for Officers and/or Ratings
The course emphasizes the significance of existing international safety regulations and instruments as an important means in preventing maritime human and environmental disasters at sea. It includes sections on the application of the Safety and Environmental Policy of shipping companies.

Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS)
This seminar provides information regarding local and international laws in the shipping industry related to company policies and contract of employment. It includes interpersonal relationship module which equips the trainees with customer service for internal and external customers. It also gives background on cultural diversities of the different nationalities onboard a vessel.

Maritime Leadership and Behavioral Development
This is a one-day course that is open to all seafarers who aim to enhance leadership ability to influence, motivate, and persuade others, thus, contributing to the effectiveness and success of the organization.

Work Attitude and Value Enhancement Program for Seafarers
This program is designed to review values and define the behaviors desired in the workplace whether onboard vessels or on shore. It focuses not only on developing ethics in the workplace but also on giving meaning to the worthwhile work aligned with the company’s vision and mission.

Language and Culture Program for Seafarers
This workshop provides practical tools to explore the everyday cultural and linguistic phenomena that international seafarers encounter in their work. The models and concepts are explained and illustrated through interactive activities such as case studies, critical incidents, interviews, proverb analysis and others.

Image Enhancement for Seafarers
This program aims to help the participants understand, define and enhance their personal image and to impress and influence people with their confidence. It will also take a look at how to improve body language, the speaking voice and verbal and visual attitude as well as the overall impression one projects.

Customer Service for Seafarers
Excellent customer service turns new customers into repeat customers which is a must in any company and in any industry. Service makes customers satisfied and happy that ensures their return.
Seafarers, in whatever position and in whatever function they handle, should project efficient handling of customers to promote the organization.
MARINA ACCREDITED PROGRAMS

Crowd and Crisis Management
This course is part of the memorandum program of Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) requiring recurrence training of Crowd and Crisis Management and Human Behavior on Passenger and Ro-Ro Passenger Ships pursuant to Presidential Decree 474, Section 13 – Paragraph C and as supplement to DOTC department order 2001-49 dated June 13, 2001. MARINA Memo Circular Nos. 171 and 173 hereby prescribes that all Officers, ratings and crew, other personnel employed or to be employed onboard domestic ro-ro passenger, cargo passenger ships, high speed crafts, freighters are required to take this course.

Safe Navigation and Collision Regulation
This training course is in fulfillment of the mandatory recurrence training required for Masters and Mates on board domestic vessels pursuant to Department Order No. 2001-49 dated June 13, 2001. The training also complies with the Philippine Merchant Marine Rules and Regulation (PMMRR) and the Regulations relating to Prevention of Collisions (COLREGS) and the Routing measures adopted by the Organizations.
MTC ACCREDITED PROGRAMS
MARPOL I
The course provides training for masters, deck officers and engine officers to enable them to maintain and operate a ship in accordance with MARPOL 73/78, with a view to:
- Protect the marine environment against oil pollution from ships
- Ensure safe and environmentally sound tanker operations
- Prevent ships from being delayed at port as a result of Port State action against pollution
This course is presented in two parts. Part 1 explains the purpose and arrangement of the convention and its five annexes which provide detailed guidance on the Annex I requirements applicable to machinery of ships. This is included in the general certificate course for deck and engine officers.
Part 2 covers the Annex I requirements applicable to oil tankers and tank to tank washing, cargo and ballast operations on board oil tankers. Those attending this part should have completed or are familiar with Part 1 of the course. This is a requirement under regulation V/1 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certificate and Watchkeeping to Seafarers, 1978.
MARPOL II
This course is intended for seafarers to have knowledge and experience in the carriage of liquid chemicals in bulk. Participants are masters and deck officers serving in chemical tankers who have not completed the specialized training program referred to in STCW Regulation V/2 (6) and those personnel who are in effective charge of shore activities associated with loading or unloading chemical tanker.
CROWD MANAGEMENT
All personnel onboard vessels must undertake crowd management training based on the duties and responsibilities detailed below:
- Crowd management training is required for masters, officers, ratings or any other personnel on ro-ro passenger ships and on passenger ships (STCW Code Section A-V/2 pa. 1 and Section A-V/3 pa.1).
- Familiarization training required for masters, officers and other personnel assigned specific duties and responsibilities on ro-ro passenger vessels and on passenger vessels (STCW Code Section A-V/2 pa. 2 and Section A-V/3 pa.2).
- Safety training is required for all personnel providing a direct service to passengers in passenger spaces on board (STCW Code Section A-V/2 pa. 3 and Section A-V/3 pa.3).
CRISIS MANAGEMENT
All personnel having specific responsibilities on board vessels detailed in Section A-V/2 and Section A-V/3 pa: 4 and 5 must undertake this training.
Ship Security Officers Course
This model course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated Ship Security Officer as defined in sections A/2.1.6 and A/12.2 of the ISPS code, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with the respect to the security of a ship to implement and maintain a ship security plan and liaise with the Company Security Officer (CSO) and with Port Facility Security Officers (PFSO).
Ship Security Awareness Program
This is a one-day program required for all Ratings in compliance with MARINA Circular no. 185, SOLAS Chapter XI-2, and in the section imposed in the ISPS code to support the officers acquiring Ship Security Officers’ Course.
TESDA ACCREDITED PROGRAMS

Food & Beverage NCII I (336 hours)
The FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICES NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to provide food and beverage service to guests in hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs, canteens, resorts and international and domestic vessels. This is a required course for seafarers who would like to work onboard luxury liners. Practicum is conducted onboard Negros Navigation vessels and partner land-based hotels.

Housekeeping NCII (436 hours) The HOUSEKEEPING NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to prepare guest rooms, clean premises and equipment, laundry linen and guest clothes, provide housekeeping services and provide valet services to hotels, motels, clubs, hospitals, resorts, dormitories and international and domestic vessels. Practicum is conducted onboard Negros Navigation vessels and partner land-based hotels.

Commercial Cooking NCII (436 hours) The COMMERCIAL COOKING NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to clean kitchen areas, cook hot and cold meals, and prepare, portion and plate meat/food to guests in hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs, canteens, resorts and international and domestic vessels. Practicum is conducted onboard Negros Navigation vessels and partner land-based hotels.

Bartending NCII (286 hours) The BARTENDING NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to operate a bar, provide wine service to guests in hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs, canteens, resorts and international and domestic vessels. Practicum is conducted onboard Negros Navigation vessels and partner land-based hotels.
