NEGROS NAVIGATION BEGINS 75TH YEAR CELEBRATIONS
(Jul 19, 2007)

As a landmark institution in maritime and passenger services for the past 75 years, Negros Navigation will mark its diamond anniversary with a series of activities that aim to demonstrate its gratitude to the nation.

A Pier 2 Clean Up Day has been scheduled on July 25 to be led by Honorary Chief Marshall, Isko Moreno, three term councilor from the district and now Manila vice mayor. He will lead community and government volunteers in sprucing up a part of North Harbor in what is hoped to be a campaign that will be pursued by neighboring piers later. Mayor Fred Lim has been invited to turn on the first volley of water from the trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection. There will be contingents from various line agencies and bureaus like DILG, DOTC, Dep Ed, Philippine Coast Guard, Manila City Hall, Napolcom and others. The local barangay, porters and their families as well as media will be in full force too.

A memorabilia and photo exhibit will also be opened at the Pier walkway in Manila, in Bacolod and in Iloilo. A nationwide photo contest, conducted by Picture City and Anak TV will also be launched shortly to allow sailing passengers to share their memories and best shots with the public. Celebrations are also being staged in various ports in the country served by Nenaco.

By December, a pictorially rich coffeetable book chronicling the years of Nenaco will be launched.

This early, billboards are being put up by key government officials in various piers of the country feting Negros Navigation on its diamond year. Senate President Manny Villar, Iloilo Mayor Jerry Trenas, Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn and Bacolod Mayor Bing Leonardia are putting up their greetings while a number of provincial and city officials are passing resolutions of congratulations honoring Nenaco.
